1933 – 2014 Obituary
COL. THEODORE LEONARD U.S. Army, Retired Col. Theodore “Ted” J. Leonard lost his long and valiant battle with cancer April 11, 2014. Ted was born in Banning, Calif., Sept. 27, 1933. The family moved to Farmington, N.M. shortly after his birth. He graduated from Farmington High School where he was active in all sports. He received a basketball scholarship to New Mexico A&M, which he attended two years. He received his BA degree from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Ala.. Ted was a distinguished military graduate, entering the regular U.S. Army upon his graduation. He received his MBA from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Ted served 32 years in the Adjutant General Corps. He received the Legion of Merit medal, along with many others. He was preceded in death by his father, John; and two brothers, Bob and Jack. Ted is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Ann; and son, Bill. Ted is also survived by his mother, Mildred Leonard of Ignacio, Colo.; four grandchildren, Billy, Chase, Brandt and Remington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Willene and Sam Crabb; cousins, Kay Wright and Nevis James; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Ted was an avid golfer, playing almost every day after his retirement in 1989, until an injury in 2009. Ted was laid to rest April 18, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. Celebration of his life is pending. He will be greatly missed.
